Neurological Rehabilitation

The Neuro-Rehab program is aimed at maximizing the potential of patients suffering from stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, spinal cord injuries, etc. The dedicated team of Neuro-Physiotherapists works closely with the Neurologists and Neuro-Surgeons to achieve the best possible results. The services of Neuro- Physiotherapists are available in the Intensive Care Units and the wards. A separate Neuro – Rehab area is earmarked in the ambulatory care area where the patients undergo therapy on a regular basis. Special packages have been devised for such patients. Support group meetings are held on a regular basis to motivate the patients and the care-givers.

Physiotherapy in Orthopaedics

The team of Physiotherapists work closely with the Orthopaedic Surgeons to ensure early mobilization and rehabilitation of patients with musculo-skeletal disorders/dysfunctions. The therapy usually involves mobilizing patients after joint replacement surgeries, orthopaedic trauma cases and other conditions causing disability on account of muscular and bony problems. The therapy is aimed at preventing and minimizing the extent of disability.

Physiotherapy in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The disease, trauma and natural physiological process of menstruation and pregnancy demand the introduction of physiotherapy at different levels and at various stages of the illness. The common ailments indicated for physiotherapy are Pelvic inflammatory diseases, Prolapse uterus and rectum, stress incontinence etc. besides ante-natal and post-natal care.

Pain Management

Pain management forms an integral part of the services offered in the ambulatory care program. Most people at some time or other suffer from back or neck pain, disability on account of knee pain or multiple joint pains (Polyarthralgia). Physiotherapy aims to not only treat the pain and other symptoms, but also to help identify the causes and provide self-management strategies.


Physiotherapy in Sports injuries

Sport is a vital part in an individual’s lifestyle today. It provides exercise, social contact, relaxation, competition and promotes good health. It may also cause injuries, many of which can be prevented. Many common injuries like bruises, ligament sprains and tears, muscles and tendon strains, joint injuries, overuse injuries and stress fractures etc are prevented and treated with physiotherapy. The program also helps in enhancement of sports performance and a detailed biomechanical assessment.

Physiotherapy - Facilities

The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation is spread out in an area of 1000sq feet with a state of the art technology. It has an earmarked area for Neuro-Rehabilitation, Ortho-Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy and Pain Management. There is a team of 6 Therapists having the requisite skill sets required to manage the patients coming for therapy. The therapy to the critically ill patients in the intensive care areas is available .

Modalities in physiotherapy used for relieving pain are :

  • Paraffin Wax bath (PWB) in sub-acute and chronic traumatic and inflammatory conditions.
  • The Electro-therapy currents (TENS, IFT, Russian Currents etc) provide the unique option to choose from 16 different current types for Electro therapy and electro diagnostic applications.
  • Intermittent and Static Electrical Traction Units (ICT, ILT) are used in spinal nerve root impingement, degenerative disc diseases, and in muscle spasms of cervical and lumbar region.
  • Therapeutic Ultrasound Therapy (US) helps in relieving pain in bursitis, myalgia tendinitis, synovitis, old scar tissues etc.
  • Laser therapy helps in treatment of pain, trigger and acupuncture points, decubitus, scarring, rheumatic conditions and degenerative joint diseases.
  • Microwave Diathermy (MWD) is used for treatment of low backache and shoulder, elbow, knee, ear, tooth and jaw disorders.
  • Continuous and pulsed Short Wave Diathermy (SWD) is used to treat painful musculo-skeletal conditions.
  • Exercises form an essential part for strengthening and maintaining range of motion in a joint which keep muscles & joints healthy.
  • Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machine for upper and lower limbs is used extensively in a variety of cases like frozen shoulder, post traumatic stiffness, joint replacement surgeries etc. It benefits the patient greatly in mobilizing the stiff joints and achieving the joint range of motion.
